Symbosis: Mutual/ization. Pera Sanat Gallery, Istanbul, Turkey 2013

Symbiosis (Mutual/ization) is a project series, which will be exhibited first at Pera Gallery in Istanbul, Turkey. This series has been inspired by the symbiotic relationships in biology found between the functioning components that make up a living cell or functions played by masses of interrelated cells in making up an organ, and eventually an organism. It is about networks of socio-cultural cohabitation and adaptation, as interpreted through my personal experiences and memories of living as a diaspora artist in many different countries over my adult life. I have encountered many different people who affected and influenced my psychology and behaviors in both positive and negative ways which are expressed in various cell-inspired forms that have been abstracted in the rather long complicated process of my sculpture making in this project, which starts from clay, plaster, silicon rubber mold then into resin casting in layers of space and color in final works. The metaphorical relationship of the collection of cells is what I am interested in as my life journey like building blocks that have contributed to my whole and mature being.
