Cabinet of Curiosities. Artspace@Helustrans, Singapore, 2010

"Origin" is an assembly of 4 black wooden boxes, hinged so that they open in an accordion style. The first box has a peep hole at the center, through which a cluster of hair can be seen. When the first box is opened, however, the inner panel prevents the inside from being revealed. The sides of the second box are reflective mirrors, but since it has no back, it does not hold any object. Its meaning and purpose is only in relation to the third box, which also has sides of reflective mirrors, and harbors a cluster of small resin casted cellular forms surrounded by hair. The reflection of the bluish resin cast of organic and biomorphic forms make infinity in their numbers. The last box has a light fixture that illuminates the interiors of the other boxes as they are opened. The viewer’s impression of the primordial forms change phenomenologically, depending upon which boxes are opened or closed. The origin of life, mystery of human existence, and the energy flow in the continuum of time are some of the concerns of the artist, who wants to address to the psychology of the viewers.
